Summary
Located in Swansea, Wales (UK), the striking Swansea Arena is a brand new £135m music and theatre venue, operated by Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG). The 3,500 capacity indoor arena is set to attract some of the world's most famous music acts and much-loved theatre productions, and will no doubt become one of the city's most popular entertainment venues.
The awe-inspiring building includes a stunning LED facade created from 97,000 LumiNode LEDs from leading LED specialist TRYKA. The LEDs are controlled by Advatek's PixLite T8-S long-range pixel controllers and R4D-S receivers. (Image supplied by: TRYKA)
TRYKA
TRYKA aims to remain at the forefront of the architectural lighting industry, to be the go-to LED lighting brand for designers, specifiers and integrators globally.
The Challenge
The sheer scale and shape of the facade required a carefully designed, efficient cabling topology. Advatek worked closely with TRYKA designers in the early stages of the project to provide input and recommendations on equipment locations and cable runs. The flexibility of the Advatek T8/R4 solution allowed for an installation highly integrated into the TRYKA modular design.
Environmental effects on the installation were also addressed, and the Advatek products were customised for added protection from moisture and salt spray, as well as further protection from fast transient (lightning strike) spikes.
Advatek Lighting’s Role
TRYKA used Advatek's PixLite T8-S pixel controllers with the R4D-S Long Range Solution for its flexibility and customisability, which allowed for full integration into the TRYKA modular design. The products were further customised with a conformal coating and additional electrical protection for fast-transient spikes.
Results
The LumiNode Pixel LED is a full-colour, 16-bit, RGBW solution. Advatek's long range control solution supports the full potential of these LEDs, guaranteeing smooth dimming and optimising colour ouputs for the most vivid image and video playback.
Rob Steart, Leader of Swansea Council, commented: "The completion of Swansea Arena as well as many other features of Copr Bay phase one means our city is well on track to becoming Britain's best and most dynamic place to visit, live in and do business."
